Continuing Education Seminars

Back and Bad Rider with Dr. Gerd Heuschmann

Dr. Gerd Heuschmann, DVM and author of the book “Finger in der Wunde” will be presenting a seminar on biomechanics of the equine spine during every step of training. He will be referring to classical dressage principles. The advantages and disadvantages of other philosophies in how to train a horse will be discussed.

Animal chiropractors have to face the fact that many disorders of movement in their horse patients are due to a bad rider.

This seminar is designed to improve our patient management skills by explaining the influence of the rider on equine spinal biomechanics both theoretically and practically.

Back and Bad Rider June 7th and 8th, 2008.

Location is Sittensen, Northern Germany. Bilingual language of instruction English/German.

You are encouraged to bring in any cases you might like to discuss with Dr. Rivera and share with the class.
Practical demonstrations and wet labs will include all advanced techniques f.e. Bilateral Atlas superior/inferior, Hyoid adjustments, Anterior Cervicals, 1st Rib adjustments, Anterior Ribs, Sternum techniques, Anterior Thoracolumbars, Sacrum Base anterior, Pubic symphysis and suggestions for motion palpation techniques to make life easier for you.

Applied Kinesiology with Dr. Carl DeStefano

Audiostream

Applied Kinesiology and Functional Neurology 1 and 2
Dr. Carl DeStefano with Dr. Dena Jersild

Both sessions are combined over 3 days.
AK 1 material starts with a brief overview of Applied Kinesiology history and its use as a functional neurologic testing procedure. The techniques taught on both horse and dog include:

Muscle testing technique as a window to central nervous system function.

  • Muscle spindle cell and golgi tendon organ techniques as an introduction to vertebral challenge. Vertebral and extremity challenge allows the doctor to test for the presence of subluxation as well as determining the proper line of correction hence allowing the adjustment to be very specific and gentle
  • Pelvic subluxation, as defined in the basic certification courses, is greatly expanded to define 3 types of pelvic categories. Techniques for their diagnosis and corrections are taught.
  • Injury recall technique as a technique to erase the neurological memory of past injuries which often interfere with normal healing, allowing subluxations to return.

AK 2 expands on the concepts taught in AK 1 adding

The use of muscle testing to diagnose muscle paresis or weakness.

  • The diagnosis and treatment of cranial faults and their relationship to dural connected structures, particularly the pelvis
  • Stomatic system anatomy and neurological function are explained with methods for diagnosis and correction.
  • Hand modes, as a means of differentially diagnosing differing structural, chemical, acupuncture and nutritional problems are taught as an important diagnostic approach.
  • Hiatal hernia and ilio-caecal valve problems which cause symptoms commonly misdiagnosed in clinical practice are presented. A protocol for their detection and correction is included in the course

All in all, AK and Functional Neurology will broaden your perspective on the cases and help you determine the underlying problems as well as treating them. Be sure to bring proper clothes as we will spend a good share of time at the barn with the animals practicing the new techniques.

Applied Kinesiology       15th to 17th of September, 2006/Next AK 1+2 planned for fall 2008

Location is Sittensen near Hamburg, Northern Germany. Language of instruction is English.
